The Phenoms’ Kerry Wood goes the distance in his final start of the tour, earning a complete game, 6-2, win over the 1960 San Francisco Giants. Wood limited the Giants to just two hits, one, a Willie McCovey home run in the fifth and also a Bob Schmidt single, in the same inning. Eddie Bressoud hit a sacrifice fly to score Schmidt for San Francisco’s only two runs.
Wood is assured of at least a tie for most games won with 19. Jose Fernandez can tie him if he wins tomorrow. Joe Jackson was three for five, clubbing his twelfth home run. Carlton Fisk hit home run #20. The tour wraps up at Los Angeles, tomorrow.
