Brooklyn takes two games to none lead over the New York Yankees, winning the first two, on the road. The Dodgers slugged five home runs, with Dolph Camilli collecting a pair. Hugh Casey earned his second straight win, both in relief.
The Dodgers opened the scoring in the top of the second. Camilli homered for the first time off Yankee starter, Spud Chandler, then later in the inning, Brooklyn starter, Whit Wyatt helped his own cause with a rbi double. Camilli made it 3-0, with his second blast of the game, the very next inning.
New York would break through against Wyatt, in the last of the fifth. Four singles and a key error by Pee Wee Reese, allowed the Bronx Bombers to tie the game at three all.
In the top of the eighth, Ducky Medwick homered off reliever, Danny Murphy, with one out. Cookie Lavagetto then doubled and Red Rolfe committed a two-base error, allowing a second run to score. That made it, 5-3 Brooklyn.
Tiny Bonham was called into relief action in the top of the ninth, for the Dodgers. He was greeted by back-to-back home runs from Billy Herman and Pete Reiser.
Hugh Casey had pitched the eighth for Brooklyn and was the pitcher of record with a 7-3 lead. However, the Yanks had one last gasp. Tommy Heinrich hit a one out, solo blast in the Yankee ninth, followed by a double from Joe DiMaggio and a rbi single from Bill Dickey. Final score: Brooklyn 7. New York 5.
The series now shifts to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn for game three. Marius Russo is slated to face Fred Fitzsimmons.
