1941 WORLD SERIES GAME THREE
EBBETS FIELD, BROOKLYN, N.Y.
NEW YORK 3
BROOKLYN 1
WP-MARIUS RUSSO (1-0) LP-FRED FITZSIMMONS (0-1)
The pattern of the visiting team winning, holds true, as the Yankees take the first game in Brooklyn, by a score of 3 to 1.
Charlie Keller’s rbi single in the top of the third put the Yankees on the board first. The Dodgers had an immediate answer, when, in the bottom of that inning, Billy Herman singled and scored on a Pete Reiser triple.
Three singles off Fitzsimmons in the fifth, led to New York’s second tally of the game. They would add an insurance run in the seventh. Joe DiMaggio singled and later advanced on a Cookie Lavagetto error. Phil Rizzuto, who had three hits on the day, doubled to score DiMaggio and give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Johnny Murphy relieved Yanks starter, Russo, after six innings and held Brooklyn scoreless the rest of the way.
The series continues, with Atley Donald projected to go against Kirby Higbe.
