BROOKLYN 8

WP- KIRBY HIGBE (1-0) LP- ATLEY DONALD (0-1)

HR- TOMMY HEINRICH (3); DUCKY MEDWICK (3)

For the first time in the series, the home team won. Brooklyn’s 8-3 victory over the New York Yankees, puts the Dodgers one game from a World Series title.

The top third of the order was instrumental in the win. Pee Wee Reese was 3-5, with two runs scored. Dixie Walker also went 2-4, smacking a double and a triple and Pete Reiser was 4-4, with a double and two rbi’s.

Brooklyn got the party started with a three run, first inning, sparked by doubles from Reese and Reiser, along with a sacrifice fly by Lew Riggs. Joe Medwick added a solo homer off Atley Donald, in the bottom of the fourth, giving Brooklyn a 4-0 lead.

Dodger starter, Kirby Higbe held the Yankees scoreless through the first four innings, Pee Wee Reese booted a ball off the bat of Johnny Sturm, in the top of the fifth. Red Rolfe followed with a base on balls. That set up Tommy Heinrich, who clubbed a three-run blast. All those runs were of course, unearned.

Brooklyn would increase their lead in the seventh, when Dixie Walker tripled and Reiser singled him in, putting the Dodgers in front, 5-3.

An error by Red Rolfe in the bottom of the eighth, led to three more runs for Brooklyn, as they salted the game away.

Red Ruffing will start game five, in an attempt to extend the series. He will be opposed by Whit Wyatt for Brooklyn.
