SAM MCDOWELL TOSSES NO HITTER AGAINST TIGERS

WP- Sam McDowell LP-Denny McLain (0-2)

HR-Max Alvis, Cleveland

Real Life: 7IP, 2ER, 6H, 9K, 2BB, ND (0-0)

Replay: 8IP, 2ER, 8H, 3K, 1BB, L-(0-2)

For the second straight start, Denny McLain has been outpitched by his mound opponent. On Opening Day, Boston’s Jose Santiago pitched a shutout against McLain and today, Cleveland’s Sam McDowell went one better, pitching a 2-0 no hitter against the Tigers. It is just the fourth no hitter I’ve rolled in Strat in over 50 years. McLain joins Paul Splittorff, Mudcat Grant and Dazzy Vance in the exclusive club. While McLain was able to escape with no decisions in his first two starts, no such luck here, as he falls to 0-2.
