Baltimore beat Detroit in a slugfest, with McLain pitching his worst ball of the year. Amazingly, after giving up five runs in just three innings, he managed to escape with a no decision. Denny pitched poorly in real life on this date, as this was one of his rare losses in 1968. Willie Horton’s three run home run in the fifth, was a big part of getting McLain off the hook.
