For the second straight start, it was a no-decision for Denny McLain. He left the game after eight innings, with a two to one lead. Detroit scored once in the top of the ninth, increasing the lead to 3-1. Daryl Patterson allowed two Washington tallies in the bottom of the ninth to tie the ball game. Bill Freehan then bailed Patterson out with a two-run blast in the top of the tenth.
