A red hot, Denny McLain has just completed his third straight shutout, with a ten inning, 1-0 win over the California Angels. After a mid-season slump, McLain has been virtually unhittable over his last three games. The Angels used five pitchers, but it took back-to-back doubles by, pinch hitter, Gates Brown and Dick McAuliffe, in the bottom of the ninth, to win it for Detroit. McLain now has 10 shutouts and is within one of tying Satchel Paige’s record eleven in my 1938 Philadelphia A’s Remix project. He has seven starts left to try and tie or break the mark.
