This was a disappointing loss for Gibson, as the Cardinals lost to the Astros, when the latter scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth off reliever, Joe Hoerner. It was another solid outing for Gibby, as he took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth. In that inning, Bob allowed his first home run of the year, to a man with little power, Hector Torres. With a 2-1 lead, the decision was made to pull Gibson for Joe Hoerner. That decision didn’t pay off. Norm Miller reached on a leadoff single, then promptly stole second base. Jim Wynn doubled, with Miller slipping while rounding third. He had to return to the base. With runners on second and third, Rusty Staub then knocked in both runners, to win it for Houston.
