Once again, a hard luck loss for Gibson, as he is outdueled by the Mets’ Tom Seaver, who shutout the Cardinals, 2-0. Ron Swoboda tripled and scored in the first inning. The Mets added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Seaver allowed just two hits but walked two and hit a batter. Gibson struck out a season high twelve, in the loss.
