Gibson really had to grind in this game but in the end, pulled off a 4-2 win over the Mets. Leaving after seven innings, a relatively short outing for him, Gibson had allowed a two-run homer to Art Shamsky and had been tagged for nine hits. He seemed to be in trouble every inning, but thanks to a home run by Curt Flood and a two-run triple by Roger Maris, the Cardinals prevailed.
