In the longest game of the replay to this point, both starters, Bob Gibson and Fergie Jenkins had no-decisions, in their longest outings of the year. It’s always a battle when these two clash and this time was no different. The Chicago Cubs won 1-0, in fifteen innings. Gibby tossed shutout ball for an incredible twelve innings, allowing just one, pinch hit single, in his final inning of work. He was relieved by Phil Regan, who worked the fourteenth and fifteenth inning, before handing the reins over to Wayne Granger. Billy Williams smacked a home run off Granger in the top of the fifteenth. Jack Lamabe set the Cardinals down in order in the bottom of the fifteenth, to clinch the win. Despite also settling for a no-decision, Jenkins was no slouch, pitching eleven shutout innings. He gave up just four hits and fanned thirteen.
