Mike Shannon was the hero, as his eighth inning solo home run broke a 2-2 tie and sent Bob Gibson to his seventeenth win, as the Cardinals beat the Phillies, 3-2. Lou Brock singled in a run in the top of the second, then Ron Davis followed with a rbi single in the third, giving St. Louis the early, 2-0 lead. Johnny Callison hit a sacrifice fly to put Philadelphia on the board in the fifth, then the Phillies tied it in the sixth.
