Don Money tripled in the top of the second, then scored on a Harry Anderson sac fly, to put Philadelphia up, 1-0, over San Francisco. The next inning, Tim McCarver belted a two-run home run, to make it 3-0. Carlton was lucky early, twice he had runners on third base, which were stranded. The Giants finally broke through in the last of the fifth. With one out, Steve Arnold singled. Marichal helped his own cause with a double, putting runners on second and third. Chris Speier then cleared the bases with a three-run clout, tying the game. Greg Luzinski put the Phillies ahead to stay, with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. Carlton didn’t quite match his real-life outing, in which he pitched a one hit shutout, with 14 punchouts, but he got a complete game win.
