Replay: 9IP, 0ER, 4H, 8K, 0BB. W-(7-1)

Carlton tossed another gem, earning his second shutout and sixth overall complete game, as Philadelphia defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-0. Greg Luzinski’s solo home run in the top of the fourth was the game’s lone run. Steve allowed just four hits, struck out eight and did not walk a single batter.

At this point of the season, in real life, Carlton was struggling, at least as far as wins and losses. Including today, he had dropped his last four starts. He has been much better in the replay.
