Steve Carlton 1972 Philadelphia Phillies
June 16, 1972. vs. Houston Astros at The Astrodome
Houston 4 Philadelphia 3
WP- Dave Roberts LP- Gary Neibauer
HR- Jim Wynn
Real Life: 10IP, 0R, 6H, 12K, 4BB. ND-(7-6)
Replay: 6IP, 1ER, 1UER, 4H, 9K, 1BB. ND-(9-3)
Steve Carlton came away with disappointing, no-decisions, in both real life and my replay. The real-life result was particularly crushing, as Carlton took a shutout into the tenth inning, only for his bullpen to lose it for him.
He wasn’t as effective in the replay, leaving after six innings, trailing, 2-1. The Phillies scored twice in the top of the seventh, putting Lefty in a position to win, but reliever, Gary Neibauer surrendered a two-run clout to Jimmy Wynn, in the bottom of the eighth.
