What happened in my replay?
This time, Milwaukee won. Lew Burdette earned a complete game win as the Braves defeated the Yankees, 4 to 1.
Each team got on the board with solo home runs in the second inning. Bill Skowron hit one for New York, while Wes Covington went deep for Milwaukee. Hank Aaron hit a rbi groundball, to score Bill Bruton in the third inning, putting the Braves ahead, 2-1. Johnny Logan hit the first of two sacrifice flies in the fifth, increasing Milwaukee’s lead to 3-1. Logan’s second sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, put the Braves ahead, 4-1. That would prove to be the final score. The Yankees used four pitchers. Don Larsen started and went five innings. He took the loss. Bob Turley, Virgil Trucks and Bobby Schantz each worked one inning. Lew Burdette went the distance, allowing one run on the Covington homer. He gave up just five hits. He had no strikeouts but only issued one walk. Milwaukee had back-to-back errors by Eddie Mathews and Hank Aaron in the top of the sixth but were able to get out of the inning with no runs scored.
