Carlton gave up two runs right out of the gate, with the Phillies getting one back in the bottom of the first. Larry Bowa hit a lead-off triple, then scored on Don Money’s single to make it, 2-1 Padres. Philadelphia took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Luzinski, Gamble and Bateman all singled and the Philles went up, 3-2. Carlton earned his seventh complete game victory.
