The Phillies broke a one all tie by scoring three runs in the top of the eleventh inning and went on to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Another brilliant performance by Steve Carlton, who toiled for nine innings, allowing just one run on three hits. Eight Phils were left on base during Carlton’s time on the bump and he suffered another no-decision as a result.

In the top of the eleventh, Moe Drabowsky was on the mound for the Cardinals. With one out, Greg Luzinski reached on a single and went to second on a Lou Brock bobble. Don Money singled, moving the Bull to third. Bill Robinson doubled, plating Luzinski and putting runners on second and third. John Bateman hit a sacrifice fly to score Money. Mac Scarce batted for himself and singled in Robinson for the third run of the inning. Dennis Higgins took over for Drabowsky and issued two straight walks to load the bases, before retiring Tom Hutton to end the inning. Don Clendenon smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the eleventh to give St. Louis their final run.
