What happened in real life?
This was the famous World Series game, in which Pittsburgh’s Bill Mazeroski hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, to win the game for the Pirates, 10-9.
What happened in my replay?
New York won, 5 to 2 and were in control the entire game.

The Yankees jumped out in front quickly. Bobby Richardson started the game off with a single, then promptly stole second base. Tony Kubek then doubled, scoring New York’s first run. Roger Maris grounded out, but Mickey Mantle drew a walk off Vernon Law. Yogi Berra then singled Mantle to third. Bill Skowron hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Yankees. John Blanchard than fanned to end the inning.
Bill Virdon tripled for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the first and was later brought in on Rocky Nelson’s single, cutting the deficit in half.
New York scored again in the top of the second. Clete Boyer struck out, but Yankee starter, Bob Turley reached on a walk. Richardson then hit a ground ball, forcing Turley. Richardson of course, reached on the fielder’s choice. Kubek tripled, giving the Yankees their third run of the game.
The Yankees would expand their lead in the top of the fourth. Richardson doubled, then Kubek belted a two-run home run, putting New York ahead, 5 to 1.
Bob Skinner hit a solo home run for Pittsburgh in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 5 -2 game.
Turley left after five innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three. Bill Stafford pitched the next three innings without allowing a hit. Bobby Shantz pitched the final inning, retiring the Pirates in order.
Tony Kubek was the Player of the Game. He went 3-4, with a double, triple and home run. He scored three runs and drove in four runs.
