Greg Luzinski singled in Tommy Hutton in the top of the first, to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead in the last of the fifth, capped by a Willie Montanez error, singles by Ken Reitz and pitcher, Rick Wise and then a two-run triple by Ted Sizemore.
It looked as if Carlton was going to take a loss, as he left after seven innings, still trailing. However, Philadelphia rallied big time, scoring four runs in the top of the ninth in a wild, comeback win. Bill Robinson had a two run double in the rally, off Diego Segui, to clinch it. It was Carlton’s tenth no-decision of the year. In real life, he had only three.
