It was another brilliant pitching performance by Steve Carlton, but once again, he came away with nothing to show for it but his tenth no-decision. The Phillies scored twice in the top of the eleventh inning to beat the New York Mets, 3 to 1.

Carlton allowed just one run on two hits in nine innings pitched. Unfortunately, one of the hits was a Jim Beauchamp home run in the fifth inning. Philadelphia couldn’t scratch across a run to tie it, until the eighth and that was largely due to an error by Jim Fregosi.
