Steve Carlton closed out his 1972 replay in style, by shutting out the Chicago Cubs, 3-0. It was Lefty’s 6th shutout and fifteenth complete game of the year. He limited Chicago to four hits, striking out six. He did issue four walks, however.

The biggest difference between the replay and Carlton’s real-life stats was the fact that in the replay, he had 12 no-decisions, whereas in real life, he had only three such games. There was also a big difference in complete games and home runs allowed.
