Dizzy Dean 1934 St. Louis Cardinals. (Starts Only)
My next project in the series will be Dizzy Dean’s 1934 season with the St. Louis Cardinals. There is a big caveat in this one, though. Dean made 17 relief appearances that year, with a 4-2 record coming out of the bullpen. In addition, two of those relief wins were controversial at the time, due to the official scorer’s whims. It is next to impossible to recreate a relief appearance in Strat-O-Matic (if a starter is pitching well in your replay game, you wouldn’t need a reliever.), so therefore, I will only be replaying Dean’s starts. In 1934, he had 33 starts, with a 26-5 record. He had 24 complete games and 7 shutouts. His IP total for his starts was 280.2. He allowed 96 ER, struck out 175 and walked 68. Those are the numbers I will be looking to eclipse in the replay season.
