Dizzy Dean got off to a good start, then held off a late charge by the Phillies, as St. Louis beat Philadelphia, 7-4. Dean had plenty of run support in this game, for a change. He had a 5 to 1 lead after three innings. Dizzy started to stumble in the top of the eighth, giving up two runs on two singles and a walk. His brother Paul, would come in to pitch the ninth and struggle early, allowing another run on a double and a single. In the end, though, Dizzy was able to inch his record closer to a .500 winning percentage.
