Dizzy Dean bested Chicago’s Guy Bush in a 2-1 pitcher’s duel. Dean had a 2-0 lead and was working on a shutout heading into the last of the eighth, when Billy Jurges drew a walk. He advanced to third on a single by Chuck Klein, who was pinch hitting for Bush. Chicago decided to play their infield back and when Stan Hack grounded into a double play, Jurges was able to score the Cubs lone run. Rip Collins led the offense with a triple, double and a walk.
