What’s the best thing to do when you have a 1-0 lead and your opponent scores four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning? How about if your team scores five runs in the top of the ninth! That’s exactly what the St. Louis Cardinals did against Brooklyn, in a stunning turn of events at Ebbets Field.

Dizzy Dean was working on a 1-0 shutout before he stumbled in the eighth. He gave up four runs on four hits and reliever, Jim Lindsay gave up two more hits. Dean was bailed out of the loss when the Cardinals scored five times in the ninth, while Lindsay was credited with the victory.
