Dizzy was lucky to escape with a no-decision in a 7 to 4 loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Dean had a rough outing, falling behind, four to nothing, after just five innings. Fortunately for him, the Cardinals scored twice in the seventh and twice in the eighth, to tie the game and take him off the hook. Johnny Frederick greeted Cards’ reliever, Jesse Haines with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, breaking the tie. Brooklyn would tack on two more runs in that inning to win going away.
