Greg Maddux’s scoreless inning streak ends at 31, but he does earn his twelfth win, as the Braves defeat the Giants, 7 to 3.
Maddux posted goose eggs through the first five innings, but with one out in the bottom of the sixth, he gave up a single to John Patterson, walked Barry Bonds, then made a mistake pitch to Mark Carreon, who deposited into the seats, for a three-run home run. Fortunately, Atlanta had a 7-run lead, heading into that inning. Marquis Grissom had two hits at the top of the order, to pace the offense.
