Greg Maddux’s dominating season continues as he tosses his eleventh shutout of the season, against the Florida Marlins. This was a pitcher’s duel all the way, as the Marlins allowed just three hits from the Braves. Unfortunately for them, one of those hits was a solo home run by Mark Lemke, in the eighth inning. Atlanta would get an insurance in the top of the ninth, when Belliard’s sacrifice fly scored Dave Justice.

Florida’s best chance to score came in the top of the ninth, when Quilvio Veras tripled with one out. However, Maddux set down the next two batters, to end the game and preserve his shutout.
