A three-run homerun by Chipper Jones, in the bottom of the third inning, put Atlanta ahead to stay, as Greg Maddux claimed his twentieth victory, in a 4-1 win over the New York Mets.
Maddux’s scoreless streak would end at 33 innings, when the Mets’ Butch Huskey, homered in the top of the fifth. Greg had three straight shutouts sandwiched in the middle of that streak.
Dave Justice tacked on a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth. With one start remaining, Maddux will finish at worst, 20-2, which will exceed his real-life mark.
