Replay: 7 +IP, 2R, 4H, 3K, 2BB, WP, HR. L-(20-2)

Unfortunately, Greg Maddux dropped his final decision, losing for just the second time this year. The Braves and Phillies were tied, 1-1, when Maddux surrendered a pinch-hit home run to Darren Daulton, with two out, in the bottom of the eighth. Philadelphia would tack on three more against Atlanta’s bullpen.

This ends an absolutely incredible replay. Maddux was nearly unhittable for much of the year. He finishes 20-2, besting his win total by one and finishing tied in losses with two, compared to real life. He had 12 shutouts and 14 complete games. He pitched two one hitters and a two hitter. Two times in his starts, he pitched three straight shutouts and at one point, had a 33-game scoreless inning streak.

The next chapter in this project will be Dazzy Vance’s 1924 season for the Brooklyn Robins.

Here is Greg Maddux’s stat line in the replay. Real life stats in parenthesis. IP-215(209.2), ER-24(38), HA-116(147), K-182(181), BB-39(23), CG-14(10), SHO-12(3), HBP-8(4), WP-1(1), HR-ALW- 6(8), WINS-20(19), LOSSES- 2(2), ERA- 1.00(1.63)
