Dazzy left after six innings, with the score tied, 2-2. He did not have his usual good stuff in this game. Though he struck out five, he issued three walks and allowed eight hits, four of them doubles. Several of those Giants runners were stranded, helping Vance to leave with only two runs surrendered.

A two-out error by New York shortstop, Travis Jackson, opened the floodgates in the last of the seventh. Joe Klugmann reached on the miscue, then Binky Jones followed with a single. Andy High pinch hit for Dutch Henry, who had taken over for Vance and pitched the top of the seventh. High drew a base on balls to load the bases, then Bernie Neis broke it open with a grand slam.

Zack Wheat added a solo homer in the eighth, for a 7-2, Brooklyn win.
