The Robins managed to edge the Philadelphia Philles, 4 to 3 at the Baker Bowl. Dazzy Vance allowed three runs on just five hits but went the distance. Brooklyn led, 3 to 1, heading into the last of the sixth, when Jimmy Wilson led off with a single. Russ Wrightstone pinch hit for starter, Clarence Mitchell and was fanned by Vance. Heinie Sand then doubled into the left field gap and when Bernie Neis went to retrieve the ball, he picked it up, dropped it, then threw wildly to third, allowing both Wilson and Sand to score, tying the game at three all. Brooklyn would take the lead for good in the top of the seventh. Hank DeBerry led off with a two-bagger. He was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Vance. He then scored what would prove to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Jimmie Johnston.
