Ouch! That was a rough one for Dazzy. The Robins were shut out for the first time this season, with Arnie Stone tossing a two-hit shutout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Stone’s P.O.W. was just five innings. By rule, he was allowed to pitch three more innings, provided he did not allow too many walks or hits. He did so, taking the game into the ninth inning, where he was under automatic fatigue. Stone began the inning by retiring pinch hitter, Binky Jones. After that though, he walked Andy High and Johnny Mitchell back-to-back. He was then able to shut down the next two batters to preserve the shutout. Dazzy Vance gave up three triples in Pittsburgh’s eleven hit attack.
