Andy Etchebarren’s two-run home run in the top of the ninth off Ray Lamb, was the difference in this one.

Gary Peters was a one-man gang for Boston, not only pitching a two-hit shutout, but driving in both Red Sox runs. Boston remains red hot, having won their eighth straight game.
Cincinnati 3 Minnesota 6

HR- Tony Perez (3)
Jim Katt looked to have the game in the bag, with a 4-0 lead, heading into the eighth inning. Tony Perez of the Reds belted a three-run bomb, to close the gap to one run. The Twins answered with a two-spot in their half of the eighth, to pull away for the 6-3 win.

Pittsburgh 1 Oakland 3

Vida Blue made the first spot start of the season and he was magnificent. He pitched a complete game, despite having a P.O.W. of just five innings and worked the ninth in a fatigued state. His only mistake was giving up a solo home run to Pittsburgh’s Roberto Clemente.

After ten games in a 56-game season, the Boston Red Sox have opened up a nice lead. We have already seen a no-hitter from Pittsburgh’s Bob Veale and shutouts by Baltimore’s Jim Palmer and Boston’s Ray Culp and Gary Peters.
