Mike Cuellar blanked Boston, 4-0, on a four-hitter. He fanned six and walked two.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 4 to 1 lead, getting a homer from Richie Hebner, in the second inning. The powerful Reds bounced back, getting three runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth. Hal McRae made the most of a rare start, going 3 for 4, with a home run, double and two singles. He also reached on a walk. Jim McGlothin earned his third win against no losses.

Los Angeles 3 Oakland 2

The Dodgers’ Alan Foster joins Jim McGlothin of the Reds as the only 3 and 0 pitchers in the league.

HR- Curt Blefary (1)

Curt Blefary’s two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth was the difference in the Yankees, 3 to 2, victory over the Minnesota Twins. John Cumberland collected the win in a spot start, subbing for Stan Bahnsen.

Week # 15 Recap:

Cincinnati has closed to within one game of first place Boston. The Red Sox have dropped their last two games, while the Reds have won two straight games. New York is the league’s hottest team, having put together a five-game win streak, to get over the .500 mark. The Yankees had a scheduled spot start this week. Oakland continues to tailspin. They have dropped five games in a row. Bobby Tolan has heated up at the top of the order for the Reds. He is tied for the batting lead with teammate, Johnny Bench and leads in hits, with 24. Pittsburgh has decided to rotate Willie Stargell and Bob Robertson at first base, while putting Al Oliver in left field. Only injury this week was Rod Carew for Minnesota.
