Game 16 Recap:
Boston continues to struggle, having dropped three straight games. Cincinnati had a chance to move into first place with the Red Sox loss, but couldn’t get past Los Angeles, losing in extra innings. New York remains hot, with their sixth straight victory. They are now tied with Baltimore in third place. Los Angeles and Minnesota are playing .500 ball. Pittsburgh has dropped two, after deciding to rotate Willie Stargell and Bob Robertson in left field, while Al Oliver is holding down the first base job. Robby had two hits and two rbi’s but also made an error in left field. Stargell had one pinch hit appearance, in which he struck out. That’s the sixteenth whiff for Willie this season. Oakland picked up a much-needed win against Baltimore yet continues to languish in the cellar. Bob Tolan has a comfortable lead in the batting race at .382.
