August 6th. New York 11 Detroit 3
Detroit was embarrassed by New York in an 11 to 3 rout, which was effectively over after the first inning.
The Tigers fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first, largely thanks to a 3 run bomb off the bat of Roy Smalley. Starter and losing pitcher Glenn Abbott(8-9) surrendered a second homerun to Don Baylor, this time a two run shot in the fifth.
The Tigers did bang out 16 hits, but they left runners on base time after time. Alan Trammell did have a three hit day, as did Enos Cabell and Tom Brookens collected his sixth homerun.
At least Chicago beat Baltimore, so Detroit remains four back.
