MORRIS’ 19TH WIN GIVES DETROIT SWEEP OF TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Jack Morris continued his stellar season with a 6-2, complete game win over the Toronto Blue Jays. His Tigers took all three games in the latest series, but unfortunately, the Orioles also continue to win and Detroit remains four games behind.

Morris was heading for a sixth shutout, but he surrendered a two run home run to Cliff Johnson in the top of the seventh.

His teammates made sure he had plenty of run support, getting four runs in the first, and another in the second, for an early 5-0 lead. Larry Herndon had three hits including a double; Chet Lemon had a pair of hits and two runs batted in and Lance Parrish had three ribbies, two on a single and one on a ground out.

The Tigers have two short series coming up, both at home. They play the Minnesota Twins for a two game set; followed by the Texas Rangers for two.

Other scores: Baltimore 11 Minnesota 4; New York 7 California 3; Chicago 6 Boston 2; Milwaukee 4 Oakland 2; Cleveland 5 Seattle 2
