RANGERS END TIGERS WIN STREAK AT FIVE GAMES. ORIOLES WIN YET AGAIN

The Tigers dropped their first game in six games, losing to the Texas Rangers, 4-3. Unfortunately, the juggernaut that is the Baltimore Orioles won again, to push the Tigers to five games behind.

New York and Milwaukee are now effectively tied for second, 4.5 games behind, with just one hundredth of a percentage point separating the two clubs.

Texas took a 4-1 lead into the eighth. Losing pitcher Glenn Abbott(9-11) allowed all those runs. Mickey Rivers was the offensive leader for Texas, with a rare solo home run, a double and a single, along with 3 runs scored. Buddy Bell also had three hits.

For Detroit, Larry Herndon had three hits, Lou Whitaker had two and Chet Lemon tripled in the loss.
