BOCKMAN’S GRAND SLAM NOT ENOUGH IN BUCS, 6-5 LOSS TO CARDS

Eddie Bockman(9), who has been on the Pirate bench for over a week, picked out the splinters and belted an eighth inning, grand slam off Red Munger, but it wasn’t enough, as the Pirates dropped a 6-5 decision to St. Louis.

The Pirates quickly fell behind 5-0, as Rip Sewell was battered for five runs over just three innings. Ralph Kiner doubled in the sixth to help the Bucs get on the board, and Bockman’s slam helped close the gap, but it wasn’t enough.

Enos Slaughter, Red Schoendiest and Stan Musial all had three hits apiece in the barrage.

Ray Poat(3-8) was again tagged with the loss in relief.

National League scores: Cincinnati 5 Chicago 4. only other game scheduled.
