PESKY’S RBI TRIPLE GIVES BOSTON THE WIN IN 1-0, 14 INNING MARATHON
Boston’s Ellis Kinder and Washington’s Sid Hudson locked horns in a pitcher’s duel for the ages, each toiling a full nine innings, only to end their days’s work in a scoreless tie.
The battle raged on until the top of the fourteenth inning. Billy Goodman stroked a single off of Joe Haynes. Dom DiMaggio then lined to first, but Johnny Pesky came through with an rbi triple into the right field corner, plating Goodman with the games first run.
Frank Quinn(2-0) was the pitcher of record, setting the Senators down 1,2,3 in the bottom of the fourteenth.
Boston had four successful sacrifice bunts, in which they moved a runner up, but was unable to score that runner later in the inning.
Kinder’s pitching line, for which he received a no decision was: 9IP, 0R, 5H, 8K and 2W. The series ends today.
