Mel Parnell(9-1) grinded out a complete game win, in which he allowed eight hits and walked five, but three double plays aided him in allowing only one Cleveland run.
Boston had plenty of offensive firepower in this game, with Ted Williams(18), Vern Stephens(11) and Al Zarilla(5) all hitting home runs. Williams finished with four hits on the day, Birdie Tebbetts had three and Billy Goodman added a triple.
Johnny Pesky went 0-4 with a walk, snapping a 13 game hitting streak.
New York beat Chicago to remain a game back. The Red Sox-Indians series concludes today.
