The White Sox hosted the Texas Rangers for a pair of games at Comiskey Park. They were beaten 2-0 in the first game, but bounced back in the second game to win their first contest of the year, 6-4.
Game recaps: The Rangers’ Bill Gogolewski spun a five hit shutout, blanking Chicago 2-0. It was a tight pitcher’s duel for most of the way, until Texas plated a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. Eddie Fisher(0-1) toed the slab for Chicago, pitching into the eighth inning. Dave Lemonds finished up.
In game two, Chicago scored three times in the second, twice more in the third, to jump out to a 5-0 lead. The Rangers’ Don Stanhouse was making his major league debut on the hill and lasted just two innings. Ed Herrmann(1) clubbed his first and the team’s first homerun of the season in the second inning. Jorge Orta was 3-5, with a triple. Bill Melton and Dick Allen added two hits apiece. Stan Bahnsen(1-0) collected the win.
