GAME RECAPS:

MAD DOGS END BANKS’ HIT STREAK WITH 10-2 ROUT OF COMETS

Mad Dogs 10 Comets 2. Roger Clemens and the Mad Dogs put an end to Ernie Banks’ consecutive game hitting streak, as they held the Comets’ shortstop hitless in five at bats. The Mad Dogs dominated the game from the start, getting four homeruns from their power packed lineup.

Banks flew out to center and right field in his first two at bats, then grounded out to second twice, before weakly grounding back to the pitcher in his final, ninth inning plate appearance. Banks batted .383 over his League record, 27 game streak.

The Mad Dogs double digit win, meant shaving a game off the Clippers lead, as the latter fell to the Naturals by one run. WP-Roger Clemens(10-2). LP-Bob Lemon(6-6). HR-Carl Furillo(3); Alex Rodriguez(17), Ken Griffey, Jr.(25), Barry Bonds(13), Mark McGwire(26).

SCHMIDT CLUBS TWO HOMERS IN TERRIFICS COMEBACK, 8-7 WIN

Terrifics 8 Peaches 7. Mike Schmidt led the Terrifics to an 8-7, comeback win over the Peaches. Trailing, 7-6, Schmidt belted a, two run homerun, his second homer of the day, in the bottom of the eighth, to put the Terrifics up to stay. WP-Goose Gossage(2-3). LP-Chief Bender(5-4). HR-Mike Schmidt 2(24).

HAMMERS JUMP OUT TO 7-1 LEAD, THEN HOLD OFF SULTANS IN 7-6 VICTORY

Hammers 7 Sultans 6. The Hammers jumped out to a 7-1 lead, thanks to homeruns by Hank Aaron and a three run clout by Frank Robinson, then held on as the Sultans battled back, scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. However, the Hammers were able to hold on, for a 7-6 victory. WP-Sandy Koufax(5-9). LP-Carl Mays(6-6). HR-Hank Aaron(23), Frank Robinson(12); Rogers Hornsby(13).

NATURALS EDGE CLIPPERS, 9-8 MUSIAL REMAINS HOT IN LOSING EFFORT

Naturals 9 Clippers 8. In the third one run game of the day, the Naturals defeated the first place Clippers, in a 9-8 slugfest. Three Clippers belted homeruns, including a red hot, Stan Musial, who has banged out seven long balls in his last nine games. But it wasn’t enough against the Nats, who got bombs from Votto and Cabrera, to sneak past the top ranked club. WP-Adam Wainwright(6-3). LP-Bob Feller(5-1). HR-Lou Gehrig(21), Lou Boudreau(1), Stan Musial(24); Joey Votto(10), Miguel Cabrera(28).
