The Mad Dogs have cut the Clippers lead to four games, thanks to a, 4-0, Tom Glavine shutout and the Naturals topping the Clippers in an extra inning slugfest. Glavine scattered six hits and fanned seven in his second whitewash of the year. The Mad Dogs have won three straight, while the Comets have lost four in a row. WP-Tom Glavine(9-5). Johnny Bench, Reggie Jackson and George Foster all belted homeruns and Bob Gibson went seven innings, as the Terrifics got past the Peaches, 4-3. With the score knotted at three, Ray Chapman came up in the bottom of the ninth, with one out and one on against Vernon Law. He promptly smashed a lined drive which just cleared the left field wall, for a two run, game winning homerun. The Sultans thus salvage the final game of their series with the Hammers with a 5-3 win. Naturals 11 Clippers 10 10inn. 2 HR RECORDS SET IN NATS SLUGFEST WIN

In the wildest game of the day, the Naturals beat the Clippers, 11-10, in ten innings. Two homerun records were tied. First, Stan Musial tied the mark for most consecutive games with a homerun, with five and the two teams together tied the mark for most homers in nine innings with eight.

Thanks to depleted bullpens, both starters, Dizzy Dean and Justin Verlander were forced to go as deep as possible. They both left the game with the score knotted at eight. Dean pitched six innings, Verlander seven.

With one out in the bottom of the tenth, pinch hitter, Paul Goldschmidt, singled off Lefty Gomez. Bryce Harper then walked and Mike Trout singled in Goldy with the winning run.
