TWINBILL TALES JULY 18
SULTANS WIN TWICE, HANDING SLUMPING PEACHES 5TH STRAIGHT LOSS
Game one: Sultans 7 Peaches 5
The Sultans got to Peaches’ starter, Christy Mathewson for five runs in the bottom of the second inning, highlighted by a three run, homerun by George Sisler. The Sultan’s first sacker added a pair of singles and Pie Traynor chipped in with three hits. Dazzy Vance becomes the first Legends League pitcher to notch a dozen wins. WP-Dazzy Vance(12-4). LP-Christy Mathewson(8-3). HR-George Sisler(9).
Game two: Sultans 2 Peaches 1
Though Burleigh Grimes pitched a complete game and won; Pete Alexander could make a case that he had the better pitching line. However, it’s the final score that counts and in this case, the Sultans came out on top, 2-1, taking both games of their double header with the Peaches.
Grimes pitched nine innings, allowing one run on eight hits, with three strikeouts and a walk. Alexander went eight innings, giving up five hits, while fanning seven and walking one. The catch is that one of the hits Alex surrendered was a homerun to George Kelly, who leads all B teams with five.
The loss was the fifth straight for the skidding Peaches.
