1971 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

GM#14 APRIL 21, 1971 VS ATLANTA BRAVES

STARGELL’S 2 HR’S TRUMP ALLEY’S 3 ERRORS, AS BUCS WIN, 5-4

Willie Stargell(7) belted two home runs, his second, in the bottom of the eighth, was the eventual game winner, as Pittsburgh edged the Atlanta Braves for the second straight day, 5-4.

It was a very rough day in the field for Gene Alley, who committed three errors, one of which led to a Braves run in the top of the third inning. Atlanta took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, when Stargell’s first homer, a two run shot, tied the game at four all. The game would remain tied until Willie’s second clout, in the eighth.

Starter, Dock Ellis, went seven innings, but it was Bob Miller(1-0) who earned the win, his first of the season. Dave Giusti collected save #5. Earl Williams had a home run for Atlanta.
