WP-PORTER VAUGHAN(1-1) LP-WALT MASTERSON

On the verge of losing 1-0 to the Senators, the Athletics dug down and scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning, to win a comeback thriller, by a score of 2-1.

Despite punching out ten hits before the last inning, Philadelphia wasn’t able to push a run across the plate. In the final half inning, Josh Gibson singled, followed by a Bob Johnson walk. Walt Masterson threw a wild pitch, allowing both runners to advance. Tom Anderson came in to relieve, but the Athletics’ Bobby McCoy launched a deep fly ball, scoring Gibson on a sacrifice fly. Wally Moses lined out to first, but then Alan Brancato singled, bringing Johnson in with the game winner.

Bill Foster had only a no decision to show for his eight innings of work, with just one unearned run allowed.
